Learn How to Braid

Learn How to Braid at bath junkie!

Learn how to braid at bath junkie We started our learn how to braid class two years ago in January and typically run it on a weekend afternoon in the winter months.  It’s become very popular and usually sells out quickly.  It came about last winter when I was trying to figure out some new exciting workshops that would get people out of the house.  If you remember 2 years ago was the winter we broke snow fall records!  So I know people would be looking for something fun to do to beat the winter blues so to speak!  I always try to pair our workshops with products we make in the store so we can combine the two for extra hands on fun.  I have two girls of my own and while I knew how to french braid that was about it so that’s where the idea for the hair braiding class came from.

Let the Braiding Begin

Initially I paired with a hair dresser from the local Snipits class and she taught 3 basic braids, the french braid, fish bone and crown (or twist).  She did about 3 of my classes and then it just became difficult trying to get our schedules to match since weekends are also busy times for hair dressers.  I went out on a limb and thought I can teach this class!  Over time I’ve become much more comfortable and if I do say so myself quite the expert at these 3 braids.

I do love this class because participants will definitely leave knowing how to do all three braids.  They might not look perfect but over time they will master them.  Plus the girls first get to make our leave in hair conditioner to use during the class which is so much fun.  In teaching this class several times we have made some adjustments and only take 12 mother/daughter participant pairs to keep it a little more intimate and instructive and I leave extra time at the end for those who want to continue practicing so I can assist them.

So if you’ve always wanted to learn this may be the class for you!  Our next class is Saturday Feb. 10th 10:30-11:30, come with friends and share this post for friends!

Face cream with Shea butter at bath junkie

Hello fellow bath junkies!  It’s been quite awhile since we’ve blogged about our amazing products and programs so we’re back at it and will be posting 2 blogs each week so please come back to see what we’re up to and share with your fiends!

I want to talk today about our primrose face cream, how I use it and why I put essential oils into it.  First off our face cream is made with 40% Shea Butter which is hard to find on the market and is one of the reasons I absolutely LOVE this cream.  Let look at why Shea Butter is so great!

What is Shea Butter?

Shea Butter is a skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree and that is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It offers UV protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. Shea butter has been used in Africa and other countries for years to improve skin and hair.

Shea Butter Benefits

  • Moisturizing: The concentration of natural vitamins and fatty acids in Shea butter makes it incredibly nourishing and moisturizing for skin. …
  • Reduces Inflammation: A 2010 study found that due to its cinnamic acid and other natural properties, shea butter was anti-inflammatory.
The fact that our cream is 40% Shea Butter that alone makes it an amazing face cream, but wait, we can enhance it even more!  I suffer from eczema and roaschia so the additional of essential oils enhances the overall benefits of the cream.  I add a few drops of doTERRA lavender and frankincense into my jar.  Since I started using this I no longer use prescription medicine or creams to treat both my skin conditions and if I do say so myself my skin looks amazing!  Here’s some benefits of each of the oils.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is unmistakable in aroma and has a myriad of benefits.  When you apply it topically, Lavender  reduces the appearance of skin imperfections.  Perfect for any blemishes, skin darkening issues and more.  It helps to even out your overall appearance.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Often called the “king of oils,” Frankincense promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness when used aromatically, while topical and internal uses provide modern health benefits.  It’s soothing with beautifying properties that rejuvenate skin and help reduce the appearance of imperfections when applied topically.
